Delco: The Movie Premiere Shines a Spotlight on Independent Filmmakers, Local Talent, and PA Film Tax Credit Program
Delaware County, PA – The premiere of Delco: The Movie on Friday, January 17th, celebrated local talent and underscored the Pennsylvania Film Tax Credit’s crucial role in supporting the arts, boosting economic growth, and helping independent filmmakers turn their visions into reality.
A coming-of-age dramedy, Delco: The Movie captures the quirks, grit, and charm of Delaware County with humor and authenticity. The film ran five sold-out screenings at the Media Theatre over the weekend.
In 2024, the Delaware County Economic Development Corporation and Visit Delco hosted an informational session for the Delaware County state-elected delegation, focusing on Pennsylvania’s film incentives and their economic impact. It was during this event that the producers of Delco: The Movie discovered their eligibility for the PA Film Tax Credit.
The film’s writer and director, Chris Pierdomenico of Philagape Productions, and producer Leah Cevoli emphasized how the state film tax credit makes it financially possible for independent creators to access the resources needed to bring their visions to life. The program’s impact extends beyond creative expression, fostering significant economic benefits for local communities.
“The state film tax credit is not just an incentive – it's a game-changer for filmmakers like us,” said Cevoli. “It opens doors to opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.”
Film incentives in Pennsylvania are overseen by the state Film Commissioner, Gino Pesi. These initiatives are designed to attract and support film productions in Pennsylvania and have proven vital in showcasing the state as a hub for storytelling and fostering local economies.
“The arts play a critical role in economic development and the film tax credit program demonstrates that,” said Pesi. “Supporting projects like Delco: The Movie can create jobs, promote tourism, and help build a sustainable arts economy within our communities.”
