Delaware County Commerce Center and Visit Delco Host Event at Sun Center Studios on Impact of Film and TV Incentives

Aston, PA – The Delaware County Commerce Center and Visit Delco hosted a roundtable discussion and tour at Sun Center Studios in Aston, PA last week on Friday, March 22nd with local elected officials and stakeholders from the film and TV industry to discuss the role of film and TV incentives and to highlight the positive effects of Pennsylvania’s Film Tax Credit program on Delaware County.

This informative session provided valuable insights into the positive effects of the tax credit on job creation, economic development, and the overall vitality of Delaware County

Pennsylvania’s Film Tax Credit, established in 2004, has been instrumental in attracting film and television productions to our state and region, including the award-winning film Silver Linings Playbook and HBO’s Mare of Easttown.

One of the key benefits of the film tax credit is the direct economic impact it has on Delaware County. Film productions bring a flurry of activity to our area, including spending on local goods and services, hotel accommodations, and employment opportunities for residents. This influx of spending stimulates our local economy, supports small businesses, and creates jobs, contributing to a vibrant and thriving community.

State Representative Leanne Krueger spoke about the program’s return on investment. “Over the years I have served in the Legislature, I have learned about the strong return on the investment from Pennsylvania’s Film Tax Credit program. When productions choose to film in Delaware County, our local unions and businesses benefit,” stated Rep. Kruger.

“The film tax credit is an invaluable tool in employing hundreds of Pennsylvanians throughout the year,” said Nicole Shiner, Director of Operations & Government Affairs for the Greater Philadelphia Film Office. “While productions must spend a minimum 60% of their budget in the Commonwealth, they often spend far more. They employ PA workers, use PA businesses, generate local taxes, and keep money circulating in our economy long after a project wraps. The fact is that this credit doesn't line Hollywood's pockets, it gives highly skilled Pennsylvanians a way to support their families year after year.”

The film industry's presence in Delaware County has far-reaching indirect economic benefits. The exposure generated by film and television productions showcasing our beautiful landscapes and unique locations attracts tourism and encourages visitors to explore our region. Additionally, the film industry has a ripple effect on other industries, such as hospitality, transportation, and retail, further enhancing our economic growth and diversity.

“As we look to the future Delaware County is committed to working collaboratively with these productions, their local partners, and our elected officials to support the film and TV industry for its tremendous positive impact on the local economy. Together, we can work to attract more productions to this region, and amplify the economic growth and impact while showcasing the beauty of Delco to a global audience,” said Laura Goodrich Cairns, Commerce Director; County of Delaware.
